Polling Point(YouGov Polling Point) The a couple of shady polling tactics are going on here: many of the questions were worded to direct the answers or confuse a lazy reader. The answers available were obviously designed to provide a specific result. Towards the end there are questions for demographic purposes that are the same in each poll but the answers ,although the same are in a different order. I wonder how news organizations choose what polls they report on?

Oh, I just saw a commercial for tax software in which the woman using it says she uses the new GPS navigation to do her taxes step by step... What Global Positioning Satellites have nothing to do with taxes. Oh and another one that drived me crazy is the way any political scandal, big or small is tagged with "gate" . Ok, I know they are trying to make every political incident look like Watergate but The scandal with President Nixon was exposed at the Watergate Hotel. So, I reach into my pocket today and discover I have four brand new 2009 pennies. Seems to me that if we want to cut some government wast how about that. Who is in charge of oversight ? First do we really need any more pennies? If the government needs some pennies how about asking the people to take some of the billions of pennies stashed in jars and cans all over the country and take them to the bank, get those pennies back in circulation. The new pennies have a lovely picture of Lincoln sitting on a log. Isn't that nice we paid an artist to make the engraving made new plates to stamp out the pennies and then dug up some copper (more like an alloy) and stamped out who knows how many pennies . So I am a member of a freecycle group and today I received an incredibly irritating post. The poster was trying to get everyone to refuse the new dollar coins because the government has finally got something right and removed the words "In God We Trust" from the this coin thereby finally ceasing the practice of violating the constitution in regarding separation of church and state. How our currency could be allowed to have that printed on it in the first place has always been something of an irritating mystery to me. The poster, in her great concern for her volnerable religion and the world states "Please help out... Our world is in enough trouble without this too!" Oh give me a break lady ... Firstly, the problems the world are facing are absolutely the direct result of religion and having some ridiculous phrase that in itself directly violates one of the core values our country was founded on removed from our currency is if anything a step in the right direction.

Here's the thing , Everyone wants to have free speech and protect the first amendment until someone says something that is offensive... To Them.

The spark for this commentary is the whole Imus/Rutgers situation in this case everyone knows that Imus is an asshole and has little to no filter when it comes to his opinions and thoughts, So the fuck what, Does what Imus, a radio personality have any real effect on anything. I suppose one could argue that his comments fuel something or that some people's views are influenced by what media personalities say. I personally would like to go to the studio where Rush Limbaugh or any of the other idiots on wingnut AM talk radio are broadcasting from with either a fresh roll of duct tape or a Louisville Slugger but I don't get to. The first amendment and the protection of free speech if for everyone regardless of how stupid they may be.
I work with children who are in residential treatment and have little to no self control and are easily set off, even these kids can (at times) understand the idea of ignoring the taunts and idiotic words of others. I think the first advice most parents give children when they are confronted with name calling and such is to just ignore the person. I think this should be the advice given by the people who get in such an uproar about stupid comments. Just ignore it.

Snow Post Number One or Snow blower Assholes

After the big snow our local street department put in a relatively valiant effort clearing the streets. I was driving in one of our semi-wealthy neighborhoods and the streets were pretty well clear of snow. Then I see some ass with a big shiny new red snow blower . Now if this guy were in my neighborhood this would be a good sign as the people with snow blowers in our not wealthy at all neighborhood tend to not only clear their own walks and driveways but also everyone else's as well. When the snow blowers aren't running we even shovel each others walks . I am not saying that only we peasants help each other out this just happens to be the case in this instance. Anyway back to the asshole. Well, not only was this kind gentleman with the big shiny new red snow blower not lending a hand to the community after finishing off his parking lot size driveway, he was blowing the snow from it out into the street . I mean there was alot of snow he had blown in the street ,enough to cause someone to slide . The best part is , as I slowed to keep from sliding as I drove threw the new man made drift, my car was blasted with a shower of snow from his snow blower. He had paused , I assumed so as to not blow snow all over my approached vehicle, Oh No he had just paused he didn't even notice a car coming and when he dug in for some more snow he blasted me. Now I have to find a dump truck to borrow so that I can deliver a load of snow revenge .

AM Radio

No I can live with crackle , static and fading stations (I dig Short Wave) , what I cannot stand is the overwhelming amount of lies and ignorant claptrap the comes out of the mouths of the talk radio hosts. I swear they just make shit up. They complain and say the right doesn't have any voice and the public only hears from the left and the"drive by media" whatever that means. Just because Adobe comes out with a new player doesn't mean that a website has to require it. This may be the most annoying thing about the web. For those of us who either use operating systems other than Windows or perhaps are just too poor to afford the newest hardware, the need to update every time some software company updates just pisses us off. Of course the worst culprits of forced updates to see their content are usually the most offensive in general (mouse with big ears for example) . Most people wont be purchasing the most cutting edge fast computers for their kids (mine had a 10 year old Mac ,pink of course) and why there would be any need to use the most processing power for a kid game makes no sense whatsoever. Really I am just pissed that my 5 year old gets really frustrated when stuff moves really slowly or she cant create her own princess because OS 10.1 isn't supported by flash 9.

Today is the first day of Kwanzaa history and the history of . Kwanzaa is ,no matter how you try to present it a racist holiday. I am in complete support of celebrating culture and making certain history is remembered accurately . It is absolutely appropriate to have sanctioned holidays to observe historical events and the history of Americans of African decent is a very important one . Kwanzaa is not about this. It is a completely made up holiday created by Ron Karenga. Where I take issue with this holiday is that the only reason that the media and the government embraces this holiday is an attempt to alleviate their own guilt at for the sins of their ancestors. It is just as racist to allow someone to do things that you would not tolerate from another race as it is to not allow them to do something. The history of slavery is a tragic one that should not be forgotten but cobbling together traditions from different areas of ones ancestral home to create a holiday is not the way to remember ,or celebrate heritage, nor does it foster a climate of togetherness and equality for everyone regardless of race or origin, which is what our country and world for that matter, desperately needs.

Open a browser window and go to myspace. Really just choose any random persons page . It is more than likely you will be hit with a barrage of flashing images, videos will load, some song will blast from your speakers and the text will likely be unreadable. Today I went to one of my friends myspace pages because I like to read what she has to say about things. I however could not get to the blog section of her page because her page crashed my browser over and over. I even turned off the page style, I had to do this really fast before the really bad stuff tried to load. It still crashed . She has so much crap going on that even without any style elements its still was too crazy to open. I cant really blame her however, this is a problem any time there is too much style personalisation offered on the web. It happened when home pages were first available to everyone in the 90s and it is happening to a greater extent now. People see cool things and they are free and they want to use all of them. Its like auto accessories or worse yet and maybe an even better example the chrome stuff the new crop of harley "enthusiasts" bolt all over their bikes. If you have a MySpace page go look at it ,really look at it then clean that thing up. if your goal is to express who you are on the internet is the big loud gaudy mess that you page is really what you are all about?

Today I saw a news report on the local TV news about a toy gun that shoots balls and how dangerous this toy was. They had a boy on talking about the injury to his eye he suffered "My eye filled with blood and I will loose my sight in that eye" NO Really you got shot in they eye and it hurt! Has this kid never seen A Christmas Story. The news report went on and on about how the advertisement said the projectiles were soft and it was powered by air. Man that is so misleading I mean if the item wasn't a GUN. Dur, is there some sort of safe gun I don't know about. We are so busy trying to protect our kids from everything that we are completely eliminating common sense from our lives. I know this is going to sound like an old man when I was young lectures but really, do you really need to have the advertiser or company that makes a toy gun tell you not to shoot it at people unless you want to hurt them. what the hell else is a gun for . We have all sort of laws to protect kids from being kids lest they get hurt. Bicycle helmets ,knee pads big little people toys . A recent list of the most dangerous toys included a stacking game for babies that due to the wooden pole that the blocks stacked on was a pole it was really a danger for impalement. come the fuck on. What we are really doing is destroying natural selection. For example : lawn darts . This toy was taken off the market in the 80s because some kids threw them up in the air and then got hit in the skull and dies. Well I would say any kid who throws a heavy projectile up in the air and then doesn't have the sense to get out of its way as its pointy end comes fling down towards them is perhaps best left out of the gene pool anyway. I would start in on the whole warning label thing but another time.

A cold breeze

As the first cold breezes of the inevitable winter to come I am faced with the fact that my garage is more for motorcycle and junk storage than to protect my car from the elements. I imagine how it must feel to those who can get in their garaged cars and just drive out into the cold without fussing with frozen locks and icy windows. But I digress, what I am here to address is the problem of the frost, not so much the frost actually but the tools we are to use to remove it. Has there ever been a scraper that actually scrapes the frost or ice from your windscreen. Really!, why do they even bother making them four or five inches wide ? I have never had one that scraped a path more than a half an inch in the ice. I think the problem is that the scrapers are flat and aside from perhaps a Citreon 2cv, an old VW Beetle or an army Jeep no windshields are flat they are curved. Dur. . . . . with all the engineering poured into the auto accessory industry this one seems like a no brainer. You know what does work well a cassette tape case . Yes, I am from the 80s and my car had a tape deck. When you were caught by that early frost a tape case was just the thing . You could bend it just enough to get a good wide scrape going. No it wasn't much good for actual ice but the frost man that was the thing. Well I am off to invent a new scraper. Well not really but my friends and I will be talking about how cool it would be to invent one without actually doing it.
